Abstract

This article is motivated by the increasing penetration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in various sectors that are fundamentally changing the way leaders manage organizations, make decisions, and drive innovation. This research aims to critically synthesize how innovative leadership is constructed and executed in the AI era, by highlighting the dimensions of competencies, roles, and challenges faced by leaders in the context of digital transformation. The approach used is a systematic literature review with content analysis and thematic analysis of scientific publications in the last five to ten years that discuss transformational, digital, innovative, and AI leadership in organizational leadership and management practices. The results of the synthesis show that AI contributes to improved operational efficiency, decision-making accuracy, and human resource management, while driving a shift in the role of leaders to orchestrate human–AI collaboration. The findings also grouped into several main themes, namely key competencies of leaders in the AI era, AI integration strategies in organizational processes, strengthening innovative cultures, and ethical issues related to transparency, bias, and psychological safety. Conceptually, this article offers an innovative leadership framework in the AI era that integrates transformational orientation, digital and data literacy, and ethical sensitivity, which can serve as a foundation for theory development, leadership development program design, and digital transformation policy formulation across various sectors.
